Volume 11 was probably one of my, if not the, most-played electronic albums of the past year (just listen to the first three tracks in succession - just pure nirvana).Īs a testament to their brilliance, Thomas Schwartz and Fausto Fanizza, whose crazy-awesome track You Would opened Volume 11, again takes a near-opening spot on Volume 12 with Circles.
#TEZ CADEY SEVE SHAPE CUTTING SERIES#
The twelveth instalment of their annual compilation series continues that trend of consistency. I’ve always loved Above & Beyond’s consistency, which, given their voluminous output, indicates that they are beyond statistical reproach as far as their taste is concerned. Multi-love, Like Acid Rain, Can’t Keep Checking My Phone, Necessary Evil Kinda has that John Paul Jones/Kashmir-kinda vibe going for it, you know what I mean? Favourite tracks Man, can’t get over Necessary Evil’s bassline. That sounds great, I’m kinda busy, could you call back again?Īnd to know why, and why the album name is Multi-Love, it’s because the album was inspired by a failed polyamorous relationship between UMO’s Ruban Nielson, his wife Jenny, and a young woman called “Laura”. Well, musically at least, because their lyrics are still… I haven’t heard such ridiculous lyrics since RHCP.

Multi-Love represents their most mature effort to date. It turns out UMO’s actually quite established. I decided to check it out, and boy was I pleasantly surprised. As the end of the year approached and I began to gear up to prepare this list, the album appeared again, this time on a couple of other year-end lists.

I added the song on a whim because it was so different from what I heard before - this was back when I was still using Rdio (R.I.P). The lead single Multi-Love actually appeared on my radar long before I actually bothered to check out the rest of the album.
